“Zuni White Buffalo Dancer”

This image was taken in 2004 in Gallup NM and was published in the National Geographic book, “Indian Nations of North America”. the dancer is Joe Joe Cellicion of the  Fernando Cellicion Traditional Zuni Dancers from the Pueblo of Zuni, New Mexico.  The Zuni people are a group of indians who have lived in western New Mexico for over a thousand years.  The dance group was founded by Roger Cellicion, father of the current leader, to preserve and pass on his knowledge of Zuni culture to his children. Today the group is under the direction of Fernando Cellicion and they travel the world and have won many top honors in dance competitions.
